Feb 6 - Population Data

Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome! I am so excited to finish out the week strong with you amazing and beautiful people. Today in class we will be reviewing the population reading and then delving into some population statistics! Should be a fun and interesting day! Lots to do! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Infer reasons behind population growth in certain countries through discussion and table talk
Agenda:
  1. History Today (video)
    1. Prompt: Graphic Illustration
    2. Describe the graphic illustration used in the video. At what level (amount of people) do population scientist say we are going to peak?
  1. Review Population reading (7 Billion and Counting)
    1. Vocabulary review

  2. Activity: Where are all the people?
    1. You will be given a handout -The World Population Data Sheet at-a-glance
    2. Using "The Data" you will need to complete the activity. 
      1. The Data  (You can access the Data through Google Classroom)
    3. Tips for success...
      1. Division is your friend for this activity.  Instead of writing numbers in the billions, divide them by multiples of 10 so that you are dealing with numbers in the thousands. 
      2. Whenever you record a country or region name, also include the number that shows why you picked that country/region.
      3. Be aware of HOW the data set is presenting information.  Throughout, it compiles information by continent or region in addition to country.  
        1. Often you will be looking for information by COUNTRY.  
        2. Be sure you are looking at and recording the correct information
    4. Whatever you do not finish in class is homework.
    5. Handouts will be collected at the start of the period on Friday.
