Feb 27 -Europe Map Test and Start GGS Reading

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome and great to see all you beautiful people! Today in class we will be taking our Europe Map test! This one is more challenging than North America, simply by virtue of being less familiar. I hope that you all have spent some time studying! After the Test, we will get down to business with our next major unit which will be to examine some of the history of colonization and its impacts on Africa. This is one of my favorite units for the year! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Locate and identify the political and physical features of Europe
  • Skim and scan a college level text to better understand the theories of Jared Diamond
Agenda:

    2. View the image and respond to the following questions.
      1. What do you see in the picture? (be specific)
      2. Who are the people? What are they doing?

Feb 15 -Population Infographic Wrap-up & World in Balance

Welcome and great to see you! Today in class we will be finishing up our Population Infographics and, time permitting, watching a video on the Population Paradox. Should be fun, informative, and a nice relaxing way to get us into the break. Let's get down to business! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:
  • Create Population Infographics using individually assigned national data
  • View and discuss the issue of overpopulation and its impact on the planet
Agenda:

    2. Open your infographic on the Chromebook
    3. Swap Chromebooks with 2 peers, each from a different region (table group)
    4. Each peer will review your Infographic (work in progress) and address the following: (Write down their responses in your HJ.)
      1. What do you like about the infographic? (consider elements of design)
      2. What does the creator need to improve upon? What, if any, statistics are missing?
      3. What were the lasting positive impressions about the overall infographic?

Feb 13 -Demographic Infographic

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome and great to see you amazing people! Today in class we will be delving into the creative world of infographics. This should be a fun and interesting way to delve into that data to touched on while creating your Population Pyramids. This is very much an extension of that activity so hopefully, you got that done with no problem! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Create Population Pyramids using individually assigned national data

      1. These sites have a free option to create infographics but will not allow you to print.  You DO NOT NEED to purchase a membership at the site.
      2. the workaround is to create your infographic and then take screenshots of elements and put the screenshots into a Google Draw document.
    4. Extra Credit will be given those that print their infographic poster size (minimum size 12x18) and have it with them in class on Friday.
    5. Print your Infographic to turn in at the start of the class period on Friday

Feb 8 -Population Pyramids

Today in class we will spend time creating Population Pyramids and then, time permitting, we will begin working on making Infographics about the countries that we analyzed through our population pyramids. This should be an interesting romp through statistical analysis! Let's get down to business! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

  • Analyze demographic data to create Population Pyramids using individually assigned national data

Feb 6 - Population Data

Welcome! I am so excited to finish out the week strong with you amazing and beautiful people. Today in class we will be reviewing the population reading and then delving into some population statistics! Should be a fun and interesting day! Lots to do! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Infer reasons behind population growth in certain countries through discussion and table talk

    2. Describe the graphic illustration used in the video. At what level (amount of people) do population scientist say we are going to peak?

      1. Division is your friend for this activity.  Instead of writing numbers in the billions, divide them by multiples of 10 so that you are dealing with numbers in the thousands. 
      2. Whenever you record a country or region name, also include the number that shows why you picked that country/region.
      3. Be aware of HOW the data set is presenting information.  Throughout, it compiles information by continent or region in addition to country.  
        1. Often you will be looking for information by COUNTRY.  
        2. Be sure you are looking at and recording the correct information
    4. Whatever you do not finish in class is homework.
    5. Handouts will be collected at the start of the period on Friday.

Feb 1 -Digital Citizenship

Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome and great to see all of you! Today in class we will be voting for our favorite Ultimate California Road Trip to the class! After that, we have some mandatory Digital Literacy training that is both quaint and cheesy. Should be lots of fun! Let's get down to business! Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Present our Ultimate California Road Trip
  • Discuss the district mandated Digital Citizenship Curriculum
Agenda:
  1. UCRT Presentations
    1. Review your notes from the presentations on the Ultimate CA road trip.
    2. On a 1/2 sheet of paper, rank up to 3 presentations you observed.
      1. Criteria to meet ranking:
        1. trip visited each region 2 times
        2. locations visited were diverse and interesting
    3. Record the Group # that presented, 3 locations they visited, and total miles traveled.
  2. Discuss Digital Citizenship
    1. Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Quiz
      1. Take Test (no worries here)
      2. Submit screenshot upon completion to Google Classroom for participation credit
