Ms. Pershe will be with you in class today while I am at Yale University for the weekend. Today in class you will be doing an activity to practice the 5 Themes of Geography. This practice activity should be a fun way to use the skills of the 5 Themes in a practical manner. Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:
- Research an area of the globe and define it by its 5 Themes of Geography
- Identify an area of the globe by analyzing the 5 Themes of Geography
- History Today
- Prompt: Review 5 Themes
- Define the Themes of Location, Place, Region, HEI (Human Environment Interaction) and Movement
- You may choose to use the textbook to refresh your memory if needed before writing the definition in your own words. (pgs 38-42).
- Textbooks are located in the desk with the blue table number or you can view a digital copy of the specific pages through this textbook CH1, Sect. 1 link.
- Quick Read & Share
- Read one of the two 5 Themes Readings
- Answer the questions at the bottom
- Find someone with the other worksheet and compare your countries
- Stay with that partner and be prepared to describe the OTHER person’s country using the 5 Themes.
- Guess Where
- The teacher will read details for the 5 Themes relating to a specific location.
- Based on the information presented, guess the location

- You and a partner will be assigned a secret location (either a city, state, province or country)
- The teacher has the locations for you. You will choose your location by selecting it from the class period specific ziplock bag. Remember -Keep your location secret from your peers.
- With your partner, spend approximately 40 minutes researching your location and completing the 5 themes for that location by filling in the information on the worksheet Where in the World -5 Themes Student Copy.
- One of the partnership will need to make a copy of the worksheet and share it with your partner.
- Each group member needs to specify a color for their text to identify which parts they contributed to the worksheet.
- Please share the completed worksheet with Mrs. Paulazzo
- Make a small poster of the five themes of your location (10-15 minutes). (Avoid the use of common images that are easily identified with your location)
- Use the provided paper and markers or colored pencils for your poster
- The teacher will provide you with the paper; markers are in the box in the desk with the green desk number.
- Where in the World Gallary Walk
- Place posters around the room and complete a gallery walk
- "Visit" each of the posters, trying to identify the location by its 5 themes.
- Record your guess on the answer slip

Homework:
