Mar 27 -Debrief Rwanda: What happened after?

Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome and great to see you all! Today in class we will be debriefing Hotel Rwanda and discussing what happened in the aftermath of the genocide. It should be a pretty interesting and informative day. I hope that you all have felt like you learned something worthwhile here. Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Discuss the issues in Central Africa from the Age of Imperialism through the Congo Wars (Focus: Impact of Imperialism)
  • Create a collaborative timeline that identifies major issues in Central Africa from pre-imperialism to present day
Agenda:
  1. History Today
    1. Prompt: Hotel Rwanda
      1. Why was there a genocide?
      2. What are the impacts of this on Rwanda and its people?
  2. Crash Course World History Congo Wars
    1. Be prepared to discuss the following after viewing the Crash Course.

      2. Describe the timeframe and important attributes of the First Congo War.
      3. Who is helping central African people in lieu of their governments?
      4. What does John Green mean when he comments about the resources and the historical governance of the region?
      5. Which country is "Imperializing" in central Africa today? What are some pros and cons of their involvement?
