Nov 9 -Culture Exemplified & Etiquette Project Pt. 1

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today we are continuing our class discussion and looking at examples of culture. After that, you will be starting our Etiquette project. Yeah! This stuff is fascinating and can lead to some great discussions. Hope you have all had a fun week and have a good weekend. Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
Objectives:

  • Define culture through its examples
  • Analyze the etiquette of another country and create a PPT to illustrate its cultural differences
Agenda:
  1. History Today
    1. Refer to the Worksheet (#1 Features of Culture and #2 Everyone Has Culture) from the last class meeting. 
    2. In your journal, respond to the following 
    3. Prompt: Personal Culture
      1. What areas of your own family culture did you find most interesting or surprising? 
      2. What parts of your family culture do you also see reflected as part of the US Culture?
    4. Write your thoughts and then share out with your table group. Add thoughts from your group with a red pen to your response.
    5. Please turn in your Worksheet after completing the warm-up activity in your History journal.

  3. Google Classroom Assignment Activity: Etiquette Project 
    1. Begin by reading the Etiquette Project Directions
      1. PURPOSE: Design a Google Slides file that can be viewed without the assistance of a presenter to convey information about a culture’s etiquette 
      2. DELIVERABLE: Google Slides presentation that uses graphics and descriptions to fulfill the requirements of the assignment and will teach others about the etiquette of a global culture
      3. FINAL ACTIVITY: Participate in a gallery walk in which students learn about the etiquettes of different cultures 
    2. Today you will begin PHASE ONE of the project. 
      1. Pick a country 
        1. Open up the List of Countries for Etiquette Project PDF 
        2. Take 2 min to decide your first and second choice countries 
        3. The teacher will call you up by desk number, using popsicle sticks, and write down the country you choose 
      2. Read the Assignment Sheet 
        1. Make sure you understand the directions
        2. Make a note of any questions you have and send a message to Mrs. Paulazzo through the Google Classroom Assignment.
      3. Start Research 
        1. Using the resource website listed below start researching the etiquette of your country
