Ladies and gentlemen,
Welcome and great to see all you amazing people! Today in class we will continue working on our Religion Projects. We will be doing pre-presentation interviews in class. If I do not get to your group, your group needs to make plans to see me at a tutorial, before your class period next Wednesday, in order to be able to present to the class. Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day
Objectives:
- Create a PPT style presentation in groups to describe a world religion to peers, field questions, and communicate complex ideas.
Agenda:
- Google Classroom Religion Project -RESEARCH Workday:
- Research, making sure to discuss and communicate with your group-mates along the way The Religions of the World text is your PRIMARY resource
- Use the questions under the category as a GUIDE not a definitive list of questions to be answered!!!
- You are trying to provide BIG PICTURE context to explain your assigned religion to the other groups in class. (Be prepared to answer clarifying questions)
- Copy and paste the Content Outline below into a Google Doc to guide your research. (You should NOT be working on creating Google Slides at this time.)
- Introduction
- Simple facts here: Helps the audience understand the context of your presentation!
- History
- What is the origin of the religion?
- Is it related to any other religions?
- Why was it created?
- Did the religion fracture or split? Why?
- What are different sects of the religion?
- Why is this a religion? Define it through the components by Hopfe and Woodward:
- Deal with people’s relationship to an unseen world of spirits
- Myths and rituals designed for communication with spirits
- Systems of organized rituals, temples, priests, and scriptures
- Statements about the afterlife
- Developed a moral code of conduct
- Have organized large amounts of followers
- What is the focus or emphasis of this religion?
- Comparison to other religions (similarities and differences to at least 2 other religions, not sects)
- How is it practiced and what are the benefits/requirements of joining?
- Probably the most important part! What does this religion look like in practice!!!
- NOTE** You are not teaching people how to practice but rather, describe the “rituals designed for communication with spirits” and “Systems of organized rituals, temples, priests, and scriptures”
- Consider this part as a what would you expect to see/observe of those who practice
- NOTE: do not include any specific prayers
- If your religion has major splits, put those different practices here!
- ALL members of the group need to understand the basic facts of the religion
- *Remeber this assignment is not about teaching people how to be a member or practitioner of a religion, but rather to deepen our knowledge and understanding about the religion as a whole
- Building your presentation
- Format the slides in a pleasing way
- You must “key” your work
- Maybe identify your slides with your name
- You must have an understanding of the religion as a whole!!!
- Your presentation should include: (reference the assignment sheet for details)
- title slide
- intro slide
- content slides
- conclusion slide
- credit slide (who did what job)
- bibliography slide
- Consider following the "Rule of 6"

- max 6 words/bullet
- min 20 pt font size for text
- min 36 pt font size for slide titles

- ALL members of the group need to understand the basic facts of the religion
